Tell Me

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

you know what, i had my first sports media management class today..

and it wasnt half bad at all!

=). that's something that's coming as a relief to me. not that i dont wish i was in broadcast instead but at least the class isnt as bad as i thought.

ive just read through all the student guides. for the uninitiated, the student guides gives students (a guide, haha no) detailed information about assignments, their deadlines, and curriculum schedule. looks like MEP is gonna take up alot of time!! coz its like video and editing stuff! i dunno.. single cam might take alot too. ahh what the heck they're all gonna take up shitloads of my time. not to mention i am taking a cross-disciplinary subject. again for the uninitiated, a cross-disciplinary subject (CDS) is something that TP students have to fulfil as leaast 9 credit units for their entire education in TP. its a module you have to take that's outside of your course. im taking a design one, freehand drawing. coz i cant draw for shit and i really wanna learn how to!

ive got the list of materials and i have no idea what some of them are. what is a roller rule and a clutch pencil?

i think you all know im quite bothered by my size and it once bordered on a little obsessive. haha. i was counting calories!

but all of that sort of worked. i was a hefty 56kg (ok i will admit) and after exercise and cutting down on the snacks and meals, im now 52kg! still heavy but. =). im really happy and i still wanna lose the 2 so i can be a 50kg. and it would be supercalifragilisticaspialidocious if i could be 48kg but that might be asking for too much.

sometimes i wish i can see myself through other people's eyes when they tell me they dont think im fat.

im not trying to make excuses here but, i have a pretty big build. my bone structure is like that and no matter how light i get, i will still be pretty big. sometimes im bummed about that, sometimes im not. the times im bummed about that is like right now, when i see skinny girls on friendster in bikinis and they look awesome. ok no im not some perv okay!! thats gross. im looking at them in a "wow i wish i had their awesome body" kind of way. flat stomachs, slim thighs, not-massive arms. haha.. i have a not-flat stomach, chunky thighs and.. you guessed it! massive arms. hahaha..

i know alot of girls have this problem, and its ironic when i try to tell other girls they're not fat when im sure they're feeling exactly like me. i say they're not fat coz i dont wanna have the chance of getting mistaken that i DO think they're fat; when i honestly dont but i know that, like me, they can afford to lose some kgs..

so, who's going to make me feel like im skinny? hahaha.. and if anyone wants/needs a weight-loss buddy. my hand's in the air!! =)

sigh, i didnt get the elective i wanted. and its very unfair. i really would like an explanation as to why i didnt get it when i was there in the morning refreshing the page until i could get it.

seriously, this fucking SUCKS.

sigh. and they didnt even give me a chance to speak to the course manager to maybe convince him im a worthy student. its like.. im fine with accepting you cant change me IF ive already spoken to you and given you the best reasons i can.

BUT, im losing without even fighting. how is this fair? seriously.. sigh. :(.
well.. all you broadcast kids.. enjoy yourself..

Ok i got to speak to the course manager yesterday but, well as you can already tell from the lack of my YES in caps and followed by profuse exclamation marks, i still didnt get the elective. not that i didnt have a good argument, it was just that the conversation started out with mr D telling me its simply too hard to squeeze me in coz im not the only one.

well i dont want to delve too much into what happened yesterday. ive accepted it but its definitely not something im happy to accept.

Mr D says everything happens for a reason. yea.. who knws? haha.. now i feel like i shouldve switched to socio/psycho lah if like that.. lol, i read the sports media marketing synopsis on the site and its like.. alot of research and analysis about sports. wtf?! boring. zzzzzzzzzz. ok lah.

anonymous, thanks for the comment.. yea i guess life isnt always fair.. maybe i shouldnt dwell on the things i couldnt get but on the things i already have.

to anonymous,

look, theres someone out there who's putting words in our mouth. i know tpiranhas has never said what some of the stuff has been said out there. things like we wanting to beat a team and let them cry at a corner. none of that is true.

we know we are a school team, we know our level may not be as good as some of the clubs but we damn sure as hell try our best. we've come far, we have not cheated in any way. we've never resorted to playing mind games like calling the opponent names or using vulgarities on the field against the opponent; which i know a certain club can be guilty of.

whichever team you're from, i hope this clears things up because i know some teams out there may not be very happy with us for some reason that we, tpiranhas, truly do not know.

and to the person who is spreading the rumours: kindly stop it. we're happy when we win, we get upset when we lose too. and we're just trying to play the best we can. we being a school team doesnt mean we cant train hard enough to play at a club level and beat certain clubs, or at least not get thrashed.

and when we get to that level we feel the pride for ourselves; for playing a good game, not for showing off to other teams or thinking we're the bomb. ie; being arrogant. come on, every team knows complacency kills the chances of winning straight away.

also, i dont think you have the jurisdiction to comment on us playing as a team because you havent played with us as a team... or have you? and even so, you will not know how the team plays now.

im not even all that mad at you for criticising the team. im more upset than mad that such a thing is happening to my team. coz i believe you are only misinformed by the rumours out there.

Unless you're the one starting the rumours, then yes, i am very mad at you.

blacksheepboy. says:
rugby ppl cant drive for nuts la. they only know how to charge only. thats why didnt notice you
blacksheepboy. says:
=)
blacksheepboy. says:
haha

haha. apparently so, since i was hit by a damn car today driven by a rugby coach. i shall refrain from revealing his name and club in case i get into trouble for that. BUT IF FOR SOME REASON YOU FIND THIS PAGE I HAVE YOUR NAME AND YOUR NUMBER. well, the car not exactly hit me to the ground. haha, to be more precise, it rolled over my left heel. and now my left heel is CONTUSED. if there is such a word. the official diagnosis was contusion of the left heel.

ok so here's how the story goes.. and for those of you wondering, not im not bloody joking. and it might sound funny now to have the words "a car ran over my foot" or tell others "yea, a car ran over her foot" but when it happened i was just in utter shock.

i was at portsdown, ELC's main office for some training and we just finished. aleksis (the uk executive, who's really really cool ;). and funny. ) asked syaza and irfan to take out the trash. they each had a bag and i followed them out coz there werent anymore.

the place is a sort of bungalow but not that big. and the road outside is narrow.. maybe 5 to 7m only. and the green plastic dustbin was outside. so they dumped it in and we were just standing at the side talking for a moment.

i knew there was a car coming from my left (i was facing the house) but it was at like at the far end. and i didnt move because i thought i was in enough. in fact syaza was standing more out than me and on my right.

then, syaza walked in and pulled me. and that was when i felt the car hit me and go over the back area of my foot.

aleksis actually pulled open the door and yelled at them while the car was still on top of my foot.

ok, when the car first hit me, i got a little scared, then i realised it was on top of the back area of my foot, and i sort of went into shock and panic. i was trying to turn around and tell the driver to reverse but it didnt work so i was frantically saying to syaza "my foot's still stuck! my foot's still stuck!". finally he reversed and i limped off. still in shock.

i started crying a little bit from the shock, but the pain was like.. a bad bruise and someone pressing on it.

i had some ice on it and irfan and syaza took me to NUH where i had an x ray and a jab to my butt. now im back home with a bandage and ankles.

there are 2 things that could leave ou pondering..

1) i almost wore sandals today but i didnt. it wouldve been 10,000 bleeding times worse if i was wearing sandals.

2) i left my wallet at home. ie, i would not have had money to pay for whatever bills i incurred. luckily irfan could pay for me though.

overall i still cant believe it when i reply the moment the car hit me and i was stuck there and that experience in the hospital.

greatest appreciation to syaza and irfan who stuck by me during the entire hospital visit. thanks alot guys i really really appreciate it. =)

and to aleksis who yelled at i quote "a prick" and flipped them off (yes told you he was cool, hahaha) when they drove off WITHOUT APOLOGISING.

ok that's my adventure for today! :D

also, thank you to those who expressed concern like amanda and liz and janice and mary (also for scolding the dude "idiot") and audrey who got me a cold towel and andrew for the beer can and taxi money. :D

also in the report, it says "patient is touch rugby athlete." hahahahahah wah write until sound like i damn pro. lmao.

Just wanna put this up. and you guys should spread the word! its taken from PETA's site. here's the url: http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/Test_Your_Compassion/explanation

Top 10 Things to Know About Animal Testing

Does Uncle Joe corner you at every family reunion to ask why you don’t like animal testing? Don’t quite know what to say when your friends ask why you only buy cruelty-free? Looking for easy ways to talk with coworkers about companies that test on animals? Check out our Animal Testing Top 10:

1. It’s wrong to subject animals to imprisonment, violence, and death—animals are not ours to use for experimentation.

2. Ninety-two out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail in clinical trials in people. Every year in the United States alone, there are more than 100,000 human deaths caused by drugs that were successfully tested on animals.

3. Animals don’t suffer from diseases in the same way that people do. The former head of the U.S. National Cancer Institute summarized the last 25 years of cancer research by admitting that “the history of cancer research has been the history of curing cancer in the mouse. We have cured mice of cancer for decades, and it simply didn’t work in humans ....”

4. Animal studies mislead researchers and waste precious time and resources. Famed primatologist and Harvard professor Richard Wrangham points out: “Every significant advance in the fight against AIDS has come through in vitro work, epidemiology, and studies of human volunteers. Early work with chimpanzees funneled scarce research funds away from more fruitful approaches.”

5. The list of medical conditions and therapies discovered and developed without animals is extensive and includes anesthesia, antisepsis, germ theory, morphine, radium, X-rays, the link between cholesterol and heart disease, the link between smoking and cancer, CAT scans, PET scans, and MRIs.

6. There are more effective research methods, including microdosing, the Hurel biochip, tissue engineering, sophisticated computer modeling, and more.

7. The Animal Welfare Act, the only federal law covering the use of animals in laboratories, doesn’t prevent poorly designed, redundant, or painful experiments. It only deals with housekeeping issues.

8. Three of the most commonly used types of animals in laboratory tests—mice, rats, and birds—are specifically excluded from even the minimum protections of the Animal Welfare Act.

9. Every time that PETA sends an undercover investigator into a laboratory, physical abuse and neglect are documented. Animals are yelled at, hit, left to suffer after surgery without anesthetics, repeatedly operated on, crammed into small cages, denied veterinary care, and more.

10. Every minute, 219 animals die in laboratories in the U.S., alone and in pain.

Imagine living locked in a closet without control over any aspect of your life. You can’t choose when and what you eat, how you spend your time, whether you have a partner and children, and—if you do—who that partner is. You can’t even decide when the lights go on and off. Think about spending your entire life like this even though you haven’t committed any crimes. This is what life in a laboratory is like for animals. It is deprivation, isolation, misery, and death.

Medical historians tell us that the majority of true medical breakthroughs have occurred in the clinic, not in the animal lab—the links between the pancreas and diabetes, plaque in the arteries and heart disease, cigarette smoking and lung cancer, etc. Also, sophisticated alternatives to animal tests, such as computer simulations and cell and tissue cultures, are faster, safer, and less expensive.

For more information about why we shouldn’t use animals in medical experiments and to learn about alternative methods, companies that do and that don’t test on animals, and more ways to help, please visit StopAnimalTests.com.

its sick guys. dont you feel angry and outraged after you read that? i do. i ditto the quote in the picture up there word for word. it is utterly UNFAIR. like ive always said, humans are not above animals and we should never use them for our advantage. like the points above state anyway, THE TESTS NEVER PROVE RIGHT. they're inaccurate, a waste of resources and most importantly, absolutely inhumane.

on another note, ive always been against using endangered animal parts for ridiculous mind-induced "ailments". like consuming powdered rhino horn, deer antlers and tiger penises. please, mother fuckers. how would you like it if i cut off YOUR bloody penis and feed it to the tiger coz i think the tiger may need some help with its virility? or if i cut off your nose and give it to the rhino for whatever reason YOU had. seriously man we need to eradicate this mentality that such "cures" work. THEY DONT.

my dear readers, if you have relatives who believe in such stuff, i strongly URGE you to try and change their minds. research if you, like me, believe that this should not be happening and use the facts that you found out about to persuade your relative otherwise.

visit www.youthnoise.com or the other 2 sites that were mentioned in the above post for more information. i'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes:

Only after the last tree has been cut,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then you will find that money cannot be eaten.
- An old Cree Indian saying.
